13,303 watch Griffin go off (Basketball)
All season Kelsey Griffin of Eagle River has been putting up numbers worthy of her preseason All-American hype.
She did it again Saturday, delivering 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to lead No. 7 Nebraska to its 17th consecutive victory by disposing of Kansas State 71-56.
Except this time the two-time All-Big 12 star dazzled in front of a school-record crowd of 13,303 fans, who rewarded her with a standing ovation.
Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, was everywhere on the court, too.
“The 6-foot-2 senior led a couple fast breaks,” wrote AP reporter Eric Olson. “She got down on the floor to win a loose ball … Griffin mucked it up for a hardworking putback, then rebounded Taelor Karr’s missed 3-pointer and drove the length of the floor for a layup to put Nebraska up 52-38 with 14:15 left.”
The Alaskan is now averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per game.
