Set your DVR, people. Lance Mackey will be featured on the HBO show ‘Real Sports’ on May 18 and it promises to be a classic.

Everything out of Mackey’s mouth seems to be funny in part because he is as honest as they come. Plus he’s got a great sense of humor and the 2010 Alaska Sports Hall of Fame inductee is sure to make America laugh.

“You cannot find a more ‘real’ person than Lance Mackey,” Hall of Fame president Harlow Robinson told me, “and you cannot find a more successful person in any sport than Lance at this point in time.

“HBO picked a great person to profile for their ‘Real Sports’ program.”

Mackey, of Fairbanks fame, has set the precedent in dog mushing today, bouncing back from throat cancer to become the first musher in history to win the 1,100-mile Iditarod and 1,000-mile Yukon Quest in the same winter—and he’s done it twice.

Oh, yeah, and he’s the first person to win four Iditarod and four Yukon Quest titles in a career.

“We’re proud to call Lance an Alaska Sports Hall of Fame inductee and we’re excited to see footage of his induction on the ‘Real Sports’ feature,” Robinson said.
