Brad Oleson may have his own day in his hometown of North Pole, but he now calls Spain home.

He switched citizenship. He no longer gets a PFD check. And now he’s vying for a spot on the Spanish National Team.

Oleson, of UAF fame, was included on the 24-man list from which national coach Sergio Scariolo will select 15 players to begin training next month for the FIBA World Championships in Turkey.

The 6-foot-3 Alaskan, er, Spaniard, helped his pro team Caja Laboral win the Spanish League championship and advance to the Euroleague quarterfinals this past season.

Oleson averaged 7.3 points in the domestic championship series against Barcelona, the No. 1-ranked team in Europe.

Among the Spanish players Oleson will battle for a roster spot include NBA players such as Rudy Fernandez of the Portland Trailblazers and Sergio Rodriguez of the New York Knicks.
