Young transfers to Cal State Stanislaus [Soccer]
Looking to solidify its depth for the future, the California State University Stanislaus men’s soccer team secured one of the top junior college defenders by signing Neko Young of Anchorage.
Young last season played at Shasta College in Redding, Calif., where he was a team MVP and first-team all-conference standout.
Cal State Stanislaus is a NCAA D2 school that is a member of the California College Athletic Association.
“We are excited to have Neko join us,” coach Dana Taylor told the school’s website. “He gives us the added depth in the back that we have been missing.”
Young, of Dimond High fame, will redshirt this season but is seen as a key piece in 2013 and beyond.
“He is a talented defender who is tidy with the ball, a quick 1-vs-1 defender and a good organizer of players around him,” Taylor said. “He is a quality player that can come in and take the pressure off our back line. I like his demeanor and the hardness he brings and he can definitely get us going forward in our attack.”
