January 20, 2014

14-BTT-Billy-Mills-2BThe author of one of the greatest moments in Olympic history, American Billy Mills stunned the world by winning the gold medal in the 10,000 meters at the 1964 Tokyo Games.

Since then he has toured the country telling his inspirational story.

He will here Wednesday night, Jan. 29, at Bear Tooth Theatrepub.

Mills will be in town thanks to the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame with support from Bristol Bay Native Corporation, Arctic Slip Regional Corporation and Bering Straits Native Corporation.

The evening will include a screening of his 1964 gold medal run – an Olympic feat no American had accomplished before or since him.

“This is an opportunity to meet an eloquent and inspirational individual and watch one of the greatest moments in sports history on the big screen,” said Alaska Sports Hall of Fame executive director Harlow Robinson.

This is your chance to meet Mills and hear his personal account of triumph over adversity. Other special guests include Alaska Sports Hall of Fame inductees George Attla and Herb Didrickson as well as Hall of Fame nominees Don Clary, Doug Herron, Nicole Johnston and Carol Pickett-Hull.

The evening will also include a special tribute to Alaska’s 2014 Olympians.

“The evening will be a celebration of what is good about sports,” Robinson said.
