FSU’s Bookert gets assist from Florida player in game winner

devon_bookert_basketball_sm1This was one game-winning shot Anchorage’s Devon Bookert probably never saw coming.

The Florida State guard was credited with the winning bucket after his 3-point air ball was accidentally tipped in by a Florida player on the final play of tonight’s game.

The miscue gift wrapped a 65-63 win. Merry Christmas, FSU.

Bookert, of West High fame, finished with 12 points and needed all the help he could get on a 4-for-14 shooting night.

With the score tied and 3 seconds left, FSU inbounded the ball to Bookert in the right corner. He caught the ball and turned to shoot with a man in his face, launching an off-balanced 22-footer that would certainly fall short.

But then a Florida player reached for a rebound and inadvertently tipped the ball into the basket.

It’ll go down as the third career buzzer beater for Bookert.

The other two looked better, but they all count the same.
