The holiday season brings out the best in a lot of people, but Ryden Hines of Anchorage plays his best basketball.

For the second straight year he delivered a career-high for the Iona College men’s basketball team right around Christmas.

Ho, Ho, Hines.

The 6-foot-10 sophomore earned a rare start against Florida Gulf Coast and responded with a career-high 8 rebounds and scored 3 points – the first time he’s been in the scoring column since Nov. 26.

Hines, of Dimond High fame, played 25 minutes in his second start of the season.

“Ryden truly took a lot on his shoulders,” Iona coach Tim Cluess told reporters.

A year ago in late December, Hines scored a career-high 19 points against Northern Iowa.

He is averaging 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 32 career games.
