Jesse Cherry Runners WorldOne of Alaska’s greatest marathon runners has gone vogue.

Chugiak’s Jesse Cherry is headed to the Olympic Marathon Trials next month in Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old runner is featured on the cover of the iconic magazine ‘Runner’s World’ in the February issue.

“It was an amazing and fun experience,” Cherry told me.

“Seven locations and dozens of clothing changes during a 12-hour day. I never thought I’d be showing so much leg to the entire nation.”

Cherry, of Chugiak High fame, owns the second-fastest 26.2-mile time by an Alaskan of 2 hours, 16 minutes, 31 seconds.

Last June at the Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota, he clocked a time of 2:16:34 to earn an automatic berth to the Olympic Trials.

It was only a few months earlier Cherry won the Oakland Marathon in 2:25:14 in his first race in three years.

Cherry is one of just six Alaskans to qualify for the Olympic Trials in the marathon, joining Chris Clark and Kristi [Klinnert] Waythomas, David Morris, Kris Mueller and Will Kimball.
