The only freshman to start all eight matches for the University of Hawaii-Hilo volleyball team, Ashton Jessee of Anchorage has been thrown into the fire.

That’s OK, she’s a Vulcan – the mythical Roman god of flames.

Jessee, of South High fame, has handled herself well under pressure and asserted herself as one of the team’s top players on offense and defense.

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker ranks second on Hilo with a .269 attack percentage and third in scoring with 55.5 points. She is fourth with 39 kills.

Defensively, Jessee has amassed 23 blocks for the second most on the team.
