Kenai’s Allie Ostrander competed at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but she might as well have been on an island.

Surrounded in the lead pack by University of New Mexico runners on their home turf, Ostrander was on her own in the women’s 6K cross country race.

She was able to hold on for fourth place in 20:27.83 as New Mexico filled out the rest of the top 5 out of 83 finishers.

Ostrander, of Kenai High fame, won the Mountain West Conference Championships as a freshman in 2015. She sat out last season with an injury and returned this year as a redshirt sophomore.

She earned First Team All-Mountain West honors for the second time.

This was just the third cross country race for Ostrander since the 2015 NCAA Cross Country National Championships.

She has since competed in the 2017 outdoor track and field season, where she captured a national championship in the steeplechase and was named the Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year.

In her 2017 cross country debut she won the Greater Louisville Classic for her fifth career NCAA victory.
