Andrew Shortridge of Eagle River gave underdog Quinnipiac University men’s hockey team every chance at knocking off 13th-ranked Boston College in the season opener.

He kept a clean sheet for the first 55 minutes before surrendering a power-play goal late in regulation and settling for a 1-1 tie in Boston, Massachusetts.

The sophomore goaltender finished with 25 saves, including nine in the first period when he helped establish the flow of the game.

Shortridge, of Eagle River High fame, entered the season ranked among the NCAA’s active career leaders in save percentage [.920/10th] and goals against average [2.08/7th].

He only bettered those numbers while earning his first tie in 26 career games. His career record now stands at 13-7-1.
