Osborne scores 16 points for Whitman in D3 Elite Eight loss

Trevor Osborne of Anchorage had his best scoring night in a month for the No. 1-ranked Whitman men’s basketball team in a 130-97 loss to No. 26 Nebraska Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the NCAA D3 Tournament in Platteville, Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-2 sophomore guard finished with 16 points and added five rebounds, two steals and an assist in 23 minutes off the bench.

Osborne, of Grace Christian High fame, knocked down 5-of-10 shots from downtown.

It was his highest scoring game and second time reaching double digits in four NCAA playoff games this season. All 13 of his field goals in the postseason were 3-pointers.

Whitman [29-2] was looking to make consecutive national semifinal appearances.

Osborne averaged 9.7 points per game and surpassed the 300-point total for the season.
