Two Alaskans hooked up for two touchdowns to lead the University of Dubuque football team to a 27-18 victory over Coe College in the American Rivers Conference opener in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Quarterback Sean Duffy of Anchorage and tight end Karletty Faamatuainu of Eagle River accounted for 14 points on two scoring strikes and a two-point conversion to help the NCAA D3 team improve to 2-1 on the season.

Their first touchdown came on a 2-yard pass in the first quarter to give Dubuque a 6-0 lead.

The second touchdown in the second quarter came on a 22-yard strike to put the Spartans up for good at 12-10.

The two-point conversion later in the second quarter made it 20-10.

Duffy, of West High fame, completed 15-of-22 passes for three touchdowns and no picks.

Faamatuainu, of Chugiak High fame, made three receptions for 29 yards. He entered the game with just one catch for his college career.

Both Alaskans are sophomore starters for Dubuque.
