Already one of the most accurate hitters in the PacWest Conference, Anchorage’s Ashton Jessee zeroed in her arm swing even more to help deliver three road wins for the University of Hawaii Hilo volleyball team.

She was rewarded by being named Vulcans Pepsi Athlete of the Week.

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker crushed a .629 hitting percentage with 24 kills on 35 attempts over 11 sets as Hilo beat Concordia, Biola and Point Loma to surge into second place in the league standings.

Jessee, of South High fame, ranks fourth in the PacWest with a .356 attack percentage and has made only six hitting errors on 149 attempts.

The sophomore leads the PacWest with 1.19 blocks per set. Overall, she has 51 blocks in 43 sets, including seven solo.

Jessee accumulated 13 block assists during the three-match road swing, including seven in a sweep of Point Loma. Hilo also swept Concordia.

But the match against Biloa went the full five sets, with Hilo pulling out a 18-16 nail-biter in the final set.

With the match tied at 15-15, Jessee slammed a kill to give the Vulcans a 16-15 lead. Later she had a hand in the match-clinching point.

Hilo is 9-3 overall, 5-1 in the PacWest.
