Swayman lone Alaska goaltender nominated for Richter Award
University of Maine sophomore Jeremy Swayman of Anchorage is one of 20 NCAA D1 goaltenders named to the preseason watch list for the annual Mike Richter Award.
He is the only Alaskan nominated and one of just four sophomores on the list.
The Richter Award is in its sixth year and is named after former University of Wisconsin and NHL goalie Mike Richter
The award is to college goalies what the Cy Young is to MLB pitchers.
Swayman had a record of 15-13-3 as a freshman for Maine and lifted the Black Bears into the Hockey East quarterfinals for the first time since 2014.
His goals-against average was 2.74 and his save percentage was .920 percent.
He is a fourth-round draft pick of the Boston Bruins.
