Steffensen smacks grand slam, drives in career-high 6 for Mesa
Kenai’s Paul Steffensen smacked a grand slam, doubled and drove in a career-high six RBIs to help Mesa Community College beat Benedictine 13-5 in Arizona.
It was the first home run of the season for the sophomore left fielder and third in 65 career games.
Steffensen, of Kenai High fame, is hitting .364 with 11 RBIs and eight runs in nine games. Five of his eight hits have gone for extra bases.
Last season he rattled off a 26-game hitting streak, which is believed to be the longest for an Alaska player at the college level.
Steffensen owns two 4-hit games, two 5-hit games and two long hitting streaks (26, 15) as he’s lite up opposing pitchers to the tune of a .395 career average.
