Bookert matches season high with 7 assists in NBA G-League
Devon Bookert of Anchorage is adjusting on the fly to life in the NBA G-League.
One night you’re a hero, and the next night you might play zero minutes.
Such is life in a development league.
Bookert is back in the starting lineup for the Austin Spurs, and the extended minutes have given the rookie time to shine.
The 6-foot-3 guard responded with an awesome 7-1 assist-to-turnover ratio in a 138-107 loss to the Oklahoma City Blue. It was his second game with a season-high seven assists.
Bookert, of West High fame, earned the start for the second straight game and fourth in 12 career G-League games.
The former Florida State University is averaging 3.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
He averages 16.2 minutes per game. Twice he’s played more than 30 minutes. Twice he’s played barely one minute.
The grind is real.
Bookert, 26, is just the fourth Alaskan to play in the G-League. Last season he played in the Czech Republic.
