He signed only two weeks ago, but Anchorage’s Eric Schierhorn is already paying off for the Adirondack Thunder.

The rookie goaltender’s first professional victory allowed the Thunder to clinch a Kelly Cup playoff berth with a 7-5 win over Maine.

The former University of Minnesota netminder turned aside 32 shots in this his third start with Adirondack.

Schierhorn wrapped up his collegiate career in early March.

A month later, he’s between the pipes for a professional playoff team.

At Minnesota, Schierhorn was a two-time Big Ten Goaltender of the Year and finished ranked top 10 in school history in every goalie category, including third in shutouts (12) and sixth in wins (59) and seventh in save percentage (.905).
