Hebard, Oregon finish 1-1 on Day 1 of 3×3 Nationals in Vegas
Ruthy Hebard of Fairbanks kept alive her dream of playing in the title game for the third straight year at the USA Basketball 3×3 National Championships.
She and her team with the University of Oregon finished 1-1 on Day 1 of the tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Ducks beat Michigan 14-11 under the sun and then lost 17-16 to Miami under the lights. They will play the LA Dream Team Saturday in a pivotal pool-play game.
Oregon’s four-player squad is comprised of Hebard, Sabrina Ionescu, Oti Gildon and Lydia Giomi.
The winning team at this year’s national championship will qualify to represent the USA at the Pan-American Games.
Hebard, of West Valley High fame, has won 15 of 17 career games in this 3-on-3 tournament.
She was part of the 2018 title team that went 8-0 and was on the 2017 squad that finished 6-1 and reached the finals.
Last year’s group of Ionescu, Hebard, Gildon and Erin Boley won the event and earned the right to represent Team USA at the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in the Philippines.
The 6-foot-4 All-Pac-12 forward just wrapped up her junior season at Oregon, where she scored 1,798 career points in 111 games to rank No. 2 all-time among Alaska women at the NCAA D1 level.
