Like father, like son: Herron runs state’s fastest 800 since dad
Camron Herron of Fairbanks has chased his father’s 800-meter time for his entire life.
The West Valley High track star nearly caught him at the Brian Young Invitational.
Herron ran a winning time of 1:51.64 for the second-fastest 800 time ever by an Alaska high school runner and the 14th-fastest in the country this year.
His father, Doug, set the state record in the 800 of 1:49.2 in 1985 when he ran the nation’s No. 1 time.
Herron is headed to the University of Arizona, where Doug was a Pac-10 champion in 1987 and two-time NCAA All-American.
