3,000 and Counting!

Van WilliamsThe Alaska Sports Blog provides daily posts on Alaska athletes doing great things at the professional, international, collegiate  level. The priority of the blog is to bring attention to athletes who are not otherwise getting recognition. Since 2009 former Anchorage Daily News Sports Editor Van Williams has written more than 3,000 stories on over 500 Alaska athletes. These blog stories are shared by the ASHOF Facebook and Twitter pages and are regularly picked up by local and national media including ESPN. The blog is also the Van Williams place where the public can provide inductee recommendations or other comments regarding the Hall, Healthy Heroes or athletics in the community.

Meet Van

Van WilliamsVan Williams turned pro straight out of East High in 1990. He signed with the Monroe Journal in North Carolina, where he worked and attended Wingate College. He eventually returned to Alaska to work for the Anchorage Times and later the Anchorage Daily News, where he became Sports Editor before leaving in 2008 to become a freelance writer. Van is an Alaska Press Club Award recipient and has had his work run in numerous publications throughout Alaska and the United States. He is married to Marisa Cedeño. Public Participation

The Alaska Sports Blog is a space for the public to submit story ideas for the AK Sports Blog, questions to Van, or recommendations for a person, moment or event you feel should be considered for nomination into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame. Your comments will be posted on the blog for the public to read or you will receive a response from Van.  If you want to recommend an athlete, moment or event please give a brief explanation on why you feel they meet the induction criteria.
