Alaskans assist in college wins (Soccer)

September 12, 2009

Anchorage’s Carly Butcher and Eagle River’s Alev Kelter each made key plays last night to help their respective college soccer teams earn victories.

Carly Butcher

Butcher, a sophomore midfielder at the University of Southern California, recorded an assist in a 2-0 win over visiting Gonzaga.

Butcher, a former prep All-American at South High who played in three state title matches, was credited with an assist after her shot bounced off the left crossbar and was cleaned up by teammate Alyssa Davila. The Trojans are now 2-3-0.

Alev Kelter

And Kelter, a freshman midfielder at the University of Wisconsin, set up the only goal of the match when she drew a foul inside the penalty box, leading to her teammate’s PK in a 1-0 home win over North Dakota State.

Kelter, who helped Chugiak High capture its first state championship in 2007, set up Wisconsin’s first PK of the season when she dribbled the ball into the penalty area and was tripped by a defender. The Badgers improved to 3-2-1.
