Moore begins title quest tonight (Basketball)
Palmer’s Jessica Moore will be shooting for hardwood history when her Indiana Fever tips off against the Phoenix Mercury in the best-of-5 WNBA Finals starting tonight on ESPN2.
Moore, a backup center for the Eastern Division champions, is enjoying her finest professional season in helping the Fever reach the Finals for the first time. Indiana knocked off the defending champion Detroit Shock in the previous round.
Getting to the championships series is especially sweet for Moore, who has battled adversity all season.
She was cut by the Los Angeles Sparks in June before getting picked up by the Fever. Then she had a scare right before the playoffs when she got tangled with a teammate in the last regular-season game and hyperextended her knee.
But here she is now, on center stage.
Moore, 27, is seeking her first championship since 2004 when she won the last of three NCAA titles with the University of Connecticut. Her teammate then was Diana Taurasi who is now with Phoenix, a don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-a-shot squad that scores 93 points a game.
