After proving himself as a longtime college assistant coach, Shane Rinner of Anchorage got the promotion he had been waiting for at Texas A&M International University.

And tonight he finally got to sit in the first chair.

Unfortunately, Texas A&M Kingsville crashed the party, beating Rinner’s Dust Devils 70-58 in the NCAA D2 game in Laredo.

Rinner, of ACS fame, went to Texas from UAA, where he spent six seasons and was the chief recruiter for a program that went 113-67 during his tenure and marched to the Final Four in 2008.

Texas A&M International University is a second-year program.
