The bad news for the University of Utah is that its volleyball team did not qualify for the NCAA Championships, finishing the season with a 17-12 overall record.

The good news for the Utes is that sophomore Sarah Hibbert of Anchorage appears ready to lead them into the future.

Hibbert, of South High fame, enjoyed a breakout year that saw her go from reserve to rock star, starting 27 of 29 matches and playing in all 110 sets, and emerging as an offensive force.

The 6-foot-1 outside hitter attempted a team-high 839 kills, slamming home 262 of them and finishing with 13 double-figure totals. She was most impressive against rival Utah State on Sept. 8 when she delivered a career-high 21 kills.
