Afoa helps Central make history (Basketball)

Shaina Afoa of Anchorage helped Central Washington University do something Saturday that the Wildcats have never done.
Afoa, of Dimond High fame, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added seven points to help Central post an 83-64 victory over Montana State-Billings for its first win at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
The 6-foot-1 senior didn’t have a great start, making two turnovers in the first three minutes.
From there, though, the Alaskan was solid. She didn’t commit another turnover in 24 minutes and controlled the backboards.
Afoa leads the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in blocked shots (1.7) and ranks No. 2 on Central Washington’s all-time blocked shots list.
Her twin sister Savannah also plays Division II basketball at the Colorado School of Mines. When the twin towers were at Dimond, they helped the Lynx win two state championships.
