Griffin hangs 26 and 13 on Longhorns (Basketball)
The good times keep rolling for Kelsey Griffin.
One game after the Alaskan All-American candidate was held to just 13 points, the University of Nebraska star delivered 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the No. 11 Huskers over No. 19 Texas 91-79 Tuesday in Lincoln.
It was the seventh time this season that Griffin scored 25 or more points in a game and the ninth time she collected double-figure rebounds.
Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, sank 8 of 11 field goals and 10 of 12 free throws to finish well above her season scoring average (18.7).
“It was a game where every play was big and it was way more than just me,” Griffin told reporters.
The victory kept Nebraska (15-0) unbeaten, extending its school-record winning streak.
It was more difficult than the score indicated, though. Texas pulled within a 77-72 with 6½ minutes left and had a few cracks to make it a one-possession game. Then the 6-foot-2 Eagle River native scored the next six points to push the cushion to double figures.
Next up for Griffin and the Huskers is No. 9 Baylor, which features 6-foot-8 freshman Brittney Griner. Sunday’s game will be broadcast nationally on FSN (channel 36) at 11:30 a.m.
