Alaskans tearing it up at Green River (Basketball)
Anchorage’s Chris Plooy scored 10 points Wednesday for Green River Community College in a 67-54 win over Highline in NWAACC action.
Sure, he reached double figures. But really it was an off night for the freshman forward.
The former all-state player from Dimond High is averaging 16.6 points per game and is coming off a season-high 30-point performance just four days ago.
The 6-foot-5 Alaskan has reached double digits in 10 of his first 12 college games, scoring 20 or more points on four occasions. He is also averaging 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
The real star Wednesday may have been Gralin Paul of Fairbanks.
Paul, who went by the name Wookie Parker during his days at Lathrop High, pumped in a season-high 14 points (nearly three times his 5.8 season average entering the game).
The 6-foot-1 freshman had scored just 23 points in his previous four games before going off, connecting on 7-of-8 field goals.
Green River is 6-6 overall, although the team has won three of its first four league games to share the lead atop the West Division.
