The number 17 will forever be meaningful to University of Nebraska hoops hero Kelsey Griffin.

That’s because the All-American candidate from Eagle River grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds and made a school-record 17 free throws today to lead the No. 3 Huskers to a 67-51 victory over Missouri in Big 12 action.

She also scored 19 points to complete 17th double-double of the season, helping unbeaten Nebraska (27-0) claim its first-ever Big 12 championship.

A school-record crowd of 13,595 watched the game and nearly every one of them stayed to watch the players cut down the nets in celebration.

Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, was the final player to take her turn, an honor typically reserved for the team’s MVP.

She sank 17 of 18 free throws in the game, making up for 1-of-10 shooting from the floor. She added five blocked shots and three steals in 30 minutes.

Griffin and Nebraska wrap up the regular season Wednesday on Senior Night.
