Alaska’s biggest name in running is going global.

Trevor Dunbar, of Kodiak fame, has been fine tuning his fitness in preparation for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships when he represents Uncle Sam a week from today in Poland.

The University of Portland freshman earned his spot after winning the USA Junior Cross Country Championships on Feb. 13. The Alaskan covered the 8K course in 24:04 to finish six seconds ahead of the next dude.

Dunbar, who is redshirting the collegiate indoor season in preparation for the cross country championships, last won a national title in June of 2009, a 2-mile at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C.

He also won three consecutive ASAA Class 4A titles with Kodiak, setting the course record on his way out the door.
