Schoenborn signs with Minn.-Crookston (Softball)
Arguably the top infielder in the Cook Inlet Conference is headed to the University of Minnesota-Crookston.
Rachel Schoenborn, of East High fame, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the NCAA Division II member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
East High’s Rachel Schoenborn is one of the top infielders in Alaska.
The 5-foot-4 middle infielder enters her senior season as a two-time member of the All-CIC First Team and two-time selection on the all-tournament team at the ASAA state championships.
Schoenborn was the leading hitter at the 2008 and 2009 state tournaments and was selected as a 2009 state tournament player of the game. Following the 2008 season she was selected as a Triple Crown Sports All-American USA selection.
“Rachel brings a great attitude and a lot of potential to the Golden Eagle Softball program. She will add depth to our middle infield and add another left-handed bat to the lineup,” coach Mitch Bakken said in a release. “I look forward to working with Rachel and helping her develop into a solid Division II softball player.”
Schoenborn plans to major in Health Sciences (pre-professional).
She is the daughter of Janene and Paul Schoenborn of Anchorage. Her father is the current East High softball coach and a former East High standout basketball player.
