Dunbar wins 5K at USA Junior Champs (Running)

Despite not racing in a month, Alaska’s Trevor Dunbar didn’t show any ill effects from his layoff.
Rather than dusting off the rust he dusted the field in today’s men’s junior 5,000-meter race at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dunbar, of Kodiak High fame, clocked a time of 14:34.63 to beat second-place finisher Andrew Colley by just under three seconds. Colley, who runs for North Carolina State, was a three-time high school cross country state champion in Virginia.
It’s the second national title for Dunbar—a soon-to-be sophomore at the University of Portland—since he captured the USA Junior Cross Country Championships in February. In that 8K race, he beat Colley by 12 seconds.
Dunbar will represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships next month in Canada.
The Alaskan ran in the name of Uncle Sam in March at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Poland, placing 29th out of 118 finishers.
