Heun victorious in his debut (Mixed Martial Arts)
Nicknamed ‘Animal,’ Alaska’s Jake Heun used his animal instincts to make quick work of his opponent in his mixed martial arts debut last weekend.
The 235-pound Heun, who is entering his senior season with the University of Hawaii football team, beat D.J. Poti of Maui by TKO in the first round in a heavyweight fight in Honolulu.
Heun, who is from Anchorage but graduated from Palmer High, seems like a perfect fit for MMA. He has a Mohawk and has an ‘Animal’ tattoo on the right side of his chest.
“I’ve got to start getting ready for life after football,” Heun said recently.
The 6-foot-2 middle linebacker started three of 13 games last season for Hawaii, racking up 24 tackles and one sack.
