Matt Way

In the last five weeks you’d be hard pressed to find a minor-league pitcher better than Sitka’s Matt Way.

Sure, there’s golden boy Stephen Strasburg.

But Way is right there, going 5-1 with a 1.94 ERA over his last seven starts for the Lakewood BlueClaws, a Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Way, of Washington State fame, is now 5-4 with a 3.66 ERA in 12 games this season.

The 6-foot-1 lefty tossed eight innings of shutout ball last night in a 5-0 win over the West Virginia Power. The win helped the BlueClaws remain tied atop the South Atlantic League North Division.
