Teammate leaves Madden out to dry (Baseball)

Baseball is a funny sport, although Corey Madden isn’t laughing.

The relief pitcher from Anchorage was looking to continue a torrid stretch that saw the right-hander allow just one earned run over his last 13 innings.

Madden, of East High fame, tossed two scoreless innings three days ago for the Class A+ Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League and was looking for more goose eggs tonight against Lakeland.

But it didn’t happen.

Madden was touched up for four runs in a 4-3 loss, although it was hardly just his fault. He actually left the game with runners on base and Jupiter nursing the lead before teammate Natividad Dilone coughed it up.

As a result the 26-year-old Alaskan suffered the loss (1-3) while his ERA jumped from 3.18 to 4.15.
