Eagle River’s Kelsey Griffin today was one of five players named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team.

The 23-year-old small forward put up modest numbers coming off the bench for the Connecticut Sun, averaging 4.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. She ranked second among rookies in rebounding.

Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, provided hustle and muscle in a reserve role by taking charges and setting screens, the little things you don’t hear a lot about.

The 6-foot-2 Alaskan was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft after an All-American career at the University of Nebraska.

Griffin will keep the good times going in Hungary when she plays for MiZo Pecs of the Euroleague.
