A year after leading the University of Southern California Women of Troy in assists, Anchorage’s Carly Butcher is having a rougher go of it.

Butcher, of South High fame, came off the bench to collect her first point in the eighth match of the season in tonight’s 4-1 win over Oklahoma.

The junior midfielder set up the first goal of the night when she chipped the ball over the Oklahoma back line, where a USC teammate beat the hard-charging Oklahoma goalkeeper to the ball and then headed it into the back of the net.

It was the sixth career assist and 19th career point for Butcher.

The Alaskan ranks second on the team with 16 shots on goal, although it’s ironic that she recorded her first point on the night she didn’t attempt a shot.
