Evans to defend belt in Texas (Mixed Martial Arts)
One of the biggest names in Alaska mixed martial arts will put his featherweight championship on the line at Shark Fights 13 in Texas.
Doug Evans of Anchorage will fight Ronnie Mann on Saturday night with Shark Fight Promotions, a third-year national organization based out of Amarillo.
Evans, of AK Wolfpack fame, has an 11-6 career MMA record, including two UFC fights.
The 5-foot-9, 145-pounder is known for his striking skills and jiu jitsu prowess.
Evans has won four of his last five fights since April 2009, three by submission (heel lock, guillotine, ankle lock).
The last time out, March 20, he tapped out Dustin Phillips at 2:25 of the first round of his first title fight.
However, this time his opponent is a ground-and-pound fighter who has earned 10 of his 17 career MMA victories by submission.
