Anchorage’s Kikkan Randall was named to the 2011 U.S. Cross Country Ski Team that will compete at the World Championships in Oslo, Norway.

The sprint specialist earned a silver medal in a World Cup race on the same course last winter, fueling off the frenzied fans.

“I’m looking forward to this World Championship because it’s in Oslo, which is going to be like the Super Bowl of nordic skiing with all the spectators there,” Randall told the U.S. Ski Team website.

The 27-year-old, of East High fame, was the only Alaskan skier named to the national team.

However, she isn’t the only person with ties to the 907.

Chris Grover

The head coach is Anchorage’s Chris Grover, of West High fame. He was in charge of selecting the team.

“We have a small team with only seven athletes, but everyone has two things in common,” he told the website. “First, they are proven athletes who have demonstrated that in Europe, racing at the highest levels. They have what it takes to be the best in the world. Second, they are ‘all in,’ 100 percent committed to discovering their absolute potential in the sport.”

The World Cup season starts Nov. 20.
