Brought on as a substitute late in the first half, Anchorage’s Carolyn Savage did what she does best: kicking the ball into the back of the net.

Her goal Sunday helped Northern Arizona University earn a 1-1 draw with New Mexico State in NCAA D1 women’s action.

Savage, of Dimond High fame, was substituted into the match in the 30th minute and paid immediate dividends, scoring in the 45th minute, just seconds before halftime.

It was the junior forward’s fifth career goal in 41 games.

As a freshman, Savage tied the school single match record with six points on two goals and two assists against Lamar.
