No matter where Trevor Dunbar runs, those Kenyans seem to get the better of him.

So is life as an American distance runner.

Dunbar, of Kodiak fame, turned into another impressive finish today when the University of Portland sophomore finished second at the 38th annual Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore.

The Alaskan covered the 8K cross country course in 23 minutes, 22.67 seconds.

Kenyan Marko Cheseto of the University of Alaska Anchorage won in 23:18.7.

Dunbar squared off against even faster Kenyans earlier this year at the IAAF World Cross Country Championship in Poland, where he finished 29th out of 118 racers.

“We will catch up with them eventually,” Dunbar said at the time. “But it won’t be tomorrow.”
