Carver named GNAC’s top freshman (Soccer)

After a dynamic debut season in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, Soldotna striker Blaine Carver fittingly earned the Freshman of the Year award.

It’s a nice reward for a super season that saw the 5-foot-10 forward score eight times, the highest total by a SPU freshman since 1999. He was also named to the All-GNAC Second Team.

Carver, of Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club fame, ranked second on his team and fifth in the conference in goals. On Oct. 16, he bagged three in one game against the University of Mary.

Of course, Carver’s goal scoring prowess is no surprise given his propensity to find the back of the net in high school.

He had 77 goals for his career and won Gatorade Player of the Year honors in 2009 as a senior.
