It was only an exhibition, but Damen Bell-Holter stamped his arrival last night.

The 6-foot-9 sophomore forward started for Oral Roberts University and delivered 26 points and 12 rebounds in a 77-63 home win over Rogers State.

Bell-Holter, of Hydaburg fame, was a beast in the low post during his 24-minute stint. He made 9 of 12 shots from the field and 8 of 9 from the line.

“I got on the boards early and once I made my first couple of shots, I inserted myself into a lot of plays,” Bell-Holter told the Tulsa World. “I started to gain more confidence, which is important to me because when I have confidence, I play better.”

Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton liked what he saw.

“He was terrific, and we need him,” Sutton told the newspaper. “Damen has the ability. I think sometimes he just lacks the confidence. Knowing that he was going to start tonight and that we needed him to play well really helped him. He got off to a good start, got some easy baskets and his teammates did a great job of getting him the ball.

“I’m a big fan of Damen’s. Last year, he was a little bit up and down, as most freshmen are. He probably hasn’t played quite as well early this season as far as practice, but he showed tonight what he is capable of doing. He’s not going to get 26 and 12 every night, but he can be a force.”
