Chalmers calls his own number (Basketball)

Anchorage’s Mario Chalmers and the Heat have been in a giving mood this holiday season.

As in, they’ve been giving it to the rest of the league during a 14-1 stretch this month, capped with an impressive 96-80 victory over the Lakers.

Chalmers, of Bartlett High fame, isn’t one of the Big Three.

But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done his part.

The third-year NBA point guard came off the bench to average 8.5 points in December, a 6-point increase from the previous month. He reached double figures four times, including a 13-point effort in Los Angeles.

He’s scoring more because he’s shooting more, a result of opposing defenses collapsing on you know who. He launched 11 shots today, matching his season high from the previous game.

Much of his production is coming from 3-point land, where he is shooting a career-best 38 percent through 25 games. He shot 36% percent as a rookie and 31% last season.
