Anthony Cousins

Anchorage’s Anthony Cousin provided one of the few highlights for the Illinois State University basketball team last night.

The sophomore guard came off the bench to deliver a game-high 12 points in a 64-53 home loss to Missouri Valley Conference foe Creighton University. He logged 21 minutes and made 4 of 7 shots from the field, including a pair of 3s, and 2 of 5 free throws.

Cousin, of South High fame, is averaging 5 points through his first 12 games at the NCAA D1 level.

The transfer from Butler Community College has actually been scoring more as a reserve than as a starter.

In six games as a starter, Cousin has averaged 4 points and 2 assists. In the six games he’s come off the bench he has averaged 6 points and 1.5 assists.

His season high is 14 points and the dozen he bagged last night was just his second double-figure performance of the season.
