He didn’t end the year with a victory, but Anchorage’s Jake Heun did get above ground in rushing yards.

The University of Hawaii senior broke off a 12-yard run late in the fourth quarter of a 62-35 loss to the University of Tulsa in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve.

Heun, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound senior, finished with 13 yards on two carries. He finished the season with five carries for 10 yards and a score.

He scored his lone touchdown Dec. 4 against UNLV.

Heun, of Palmer High fame, started the season at linebacker and played 12 games, collecting 7 tackles and a half sack.

Then he played his final two games at fullback, bringing his career full circle after arriving on campus as a running back before switching to defense after a major injury.

Last year as a junior, Heun started three of 13 games at inside linebacker and totaled 24 tackles, including two for losses.

He had a career-high four tackles against Washington State.
