Bell-Holter puts kibosh on comeback (Basketball)
After building a cozy lead tonight on its home court, the Oral Roberts University men’s basketball team nearly fell asleep against struggling Centanery College.
But Hydaburg’s Damen Bell-Holter helped wake up the Golden Eagles when it mattered most.
The 6-foot-10 Alaskan drilled a 3-pointer inside the final two minutes as part of a key surge that carried Oral Roberts to a 78-65 win, extending Centanery’s winless drought to 26 games, the longest current streak in the NCAA D1.
ORU built a 22-point advantage after three quarters before Centanery roared back to close within single digits, forcing the Golden Eagles to call on the big guns. Leading scorer Dominique Morrison converted a three-point play and Bell-Holter sank a long jumper to seal the deal.
Bell-Holter, of Ketchikan High fame, finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
A week ago, he took a length-of-the-court pass and made a layup at the regulation buzzer to force overtime in an eventual 69-63 win over UMKC.
