New prep poll released (Basketball)
A strong showing at last week’s Alaska Prep Shootout catapulted the Cordova boys in this week’s Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Poll.
The Class 3A Wolverines jumped two spots to No. 2 in the state rankings released today. This is the third poll of the season, and they have moved up each week.
Cordova knocked off a pair of Class 4A teams in Dimond and North Pole with an OT loss to Palmer sandwiched in between at the Prep Shootout.
Monroe Catholic of Fairbanks maintained the No. 1 ranking among 3A boys teams for the third straight week.
Ditto for the top-ranked 3A Barrow girls, who ran their record to 11-0 after a series sweep of Nikiski.
The rest of the 3A girls poll saw the most movement with Galena, Bethel and Kotzebue all moving up and Sitka falling three spots.
The 4A polls saw little change, with the No. 1 West boys and No. 1 Wasilla girls holding steady.
The only variation saw the North Pole boys bump Dimond out of the No. 5 spot. The girls stayed exactly the same as the week before.
