Barrow boys debut at No. 3 (Basketball)

February 16, 2011

Fresh off its Valdez Elks Tournament championship over the weekend, the Barrow boys basketball team made its debut in this week’s Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches Poll released today.

The Whalers upset No. 2 Cordova 61-60 in the title game, thanks to 3A player-of-the-year candidate Tyler Adams, who scored 13 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter to lead Barrow back from a seven-point deficit.

As a result of that win, coupled with victories over No. 6 Nome and Grace Christian, the Whalers earned the No. 3 ranking in the 3A boys poll.

Barrow has won 12 of its last 13 games for coach Jeremy Arnhart.

Monroe Catholic remained the No. 1 3A boys team, as did the 19-0 Barrow Lady Whalers in the girls poll.

In 4A, West and Juneau-Douglas kept their stranglehold on the top spots.
