Facing a must-win situation today in the Euroleague Top 16 playoffs, Spanish power Caja Laboral was in search of a hero.

And Brad Oleson of North Pole answered the call.

The 6-foot-3 two-guard poured in a Euroleague career-high 16 points to fuel a 78-63 victory over fellow Spanish pro team Unicaja, keeping alive Caja Laboral’s chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.

His must-have performance was especially nice considering he had gone scoreless in each of the last two Euroleague games.

Oleson, of UAF fame, sank 7 of 11 field goals, including a pair of 3s. He also grabbed 3 rebounds in 24 minutes of action.

Caja Laboral improved to 3-2 in Group E play, tied for first place with Panathinaikos of Greece and Lietuyos Rytas of Lithuania. Two of the three teams will advance to the elite eight.

Oleson and Caja Laboral face the Lithuanian team a week from today in the final game of group play.

The Alaskan is averaging 7.2 points in 15 Euroleague games this season.
